The secret waterfall village is a unique project situated in the Balineese jungle forest on the steep slope by the cascade of the waterfalls. While being in the heart of the island in Ubud, the place enjoys the peace and wilderness of tropical nature. Being a resort the SWV has a large spa and sport facility with cascade and river pools and a sauna by the river bank. The community program lays between the two Holy Water temples, with a raised walk by the river bank, which ends with a yoga-shala pavilion raised above the waterfalls. Reception by the main entrance is followed by the river view restaurant, which also serves the complex of villas of different typologies. Two of them are unique architectural projects, with two more experiential villas of the element of water and fire.

MASTERPLAN

The site is situated in near the Lapapan road in Ubud, Bali and lays on the very steep slope adjacent to the river. The site total area is 7821 m². The area is a dense rain forest and is a place of local cultural and community significance as it has three water temples adjacent to it. The main temple is on the top of the hill on the other side of Laplapan road, another smaller temple is allocated to the river, and a little temple is just by the pedestrian site entrance which continues as the main footpath access to the temple by the river bank. On the top of the hill sits a huge building of community hall, which works as a space for cultural and sport events. Also there’s an old village cemetery just by the south-eastern corner of it. The adjacent part in the southern top corner of the site is reserved for the hotel and restaurant. The site is surrounded by busy roads, so noise reduction landscaping needs to be considered. The steep slope of the site ends with a picturesque river bank, famous for its scenery among both tourists and locals.

VILLA L
img

This typology is represented in the project in two different combinations - a stand alone villa on the top of the hill, and two villas conjoined together into one structure one on top of the other on the steep slope of the jungle hill. The building structure is made of concrete. Ground fl oor of each villa has a round slab, where the terraces of the villa are allocated. Terraces are separated from the interior with huge windows.

The round shaped bamboo roof structures are following the shape of the terraces slabs fully covering them from any tropical rain. The lower round slabs are fully covered by the bamboo cages, which resemble the roof shapes, but turn upside down. They complete the visual aesthetics and the picturesqueness of the villas.

VILLA XL

Villa is located on a steep slope down to the river. The base of the building is a circular cutout in the mountain, which is reinforced by a perimeter retaining wall and has an ar-tificial topography with natural platforms and stairs. Inside this cylindrical cut-out volume is a building that grows upwards on five lev-els. This creates an additional natural private space between the building and the relief, which can only be seen by the inhabitants of the house. The entrance to the villa is from the third level, where the kitchen area is locat-ed, and we can also get to each level through the artificial relief to the bedrooms located on the fourth and fifth levels without entering the villa itself. The kitchen area is connected to the common lounge, which is located on the second level by an internal staircase, and we can also go down to the lounge from the street. Under the rest room there is an oasis with a swimming pool.

Between the rest room and the pool area there is a fire place that connects the two spaces. There is also a second more private small pool in the entrance area to the bedrooms on the fourth and fifth level, which can optionally be either a Jacuzzi or a cool font. All rooms have two types of exterior partition-ing such as stained glass and wood slatted shutters.
