The aim of this project was to create tourist accommodation in the very centre of Ubud, Bali. The site lays in the urbanised part of Ubud with high density and the client task was to infill 11 villas. Both the masterplan and the 2 housing typologies were massively inspired by traditional local approach to space planning, building technology and philosophy, using the principle of nine squares.

Two types of villas - both 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom use local partly reclined timber and local brick as their main materials. They both incorporate traditional timber work layout and techniques with contemporary open plan spaces. As well as both of the typologies embrace the opportunity to blend the interior and exterior spaces making the yards with a pool a part of their large open terraces.
